Honey Cara winning at Moonee Valley by 6 lengths

Welcome to Honeycomb Stud

We are a boutique thoroughbred breeding and racing operation focused on breeding and racing quality.

Established in 2014, Honeycomb Stud has launched its operations with a stable of two well bred fillies and four broodmares.

“We started Honeycomb Stud as we are passionate about the industry. Having owned and raced thoroughbreds previously, moving into the breeding business was a natural extension of our experience and knowledge.  The passion for breeding and racing horses continues to grow due to the respect for such a fine animal”

Honey Cara measures up being only 70% fit

Posted 30/5/2015

Honey Cara had her first trial at Randwick over 735m today. Sent out in trial 13 for an experience only event, we expected her finish a fair bit off them. She came into the trial about 70% fit, immature and inexperienced having not had a jumpout.

Facing some well priced competitors from the breeding of Fastnet Rock ($200k), Starspangled Banner ($170k), More than Ready etc. Our girl has never been one to take a backwards step. When she is spelling, she anoints herself the queen of the paddock ready for all challengers.

Back to the trial - Honey Cara jumped last as we wanted her to jump out on her own terms. She quickly gathered speed to sit 4 wide facing the breeze on the pace. Racing genuinely and under the strong grip of Tye Angland, she did not mind having horses cluttered around her and found the line comfortably finishing just off them in 4th only 2 lengths in arrears.

Overall, she ran the 9th quickest time of the morning out of the 48 two and three year olds in action.

Considering there is a huge amount of upside, we are very happy where this girl is at. Assuming she pulls up ok, she may have another trial in a few weeks and then follow up with either a race start or be tipped out for a break.
